Growing Pains

Almost everyone has had them. Growing pains, that is. They're those strange feelings you get in your legs that tell you, you are about to get taller. In life, you'll experience different kinds of growing pains as you get older and face situations you've never had to confront before.
These growing pains come in the form of worry, defeat and worthlessness. Many people have these feelings at times, but there is one person who can always help take those feelings away. That person is God. See what God's Son Jesus says about the growing pains you might be feeling right about now.

PAIN #1 : WORRY
Do you ever feel out of control?
Like things just aren't going the way you planned, and you can't do a darned thing about it?
Since Sept. 11, 2001, many people have wondered who is in control. Maybe school is giving you a hard time, your friends are fighting or someone you know is really sick. All these things can lead to worry because you just don't know what is going to happen next.
Growing up can be full of worrying because there are so many changes taking place. But have you noticed that worrying doesn't make a situation any better? It does not make your grades improve or keep your friends from fighting. In fact, many times worrying only distracts you. It keeps you from doing something positive to make the situation better. Sometimes, there is nothing you can do about a situation, and that's OK. Those times teach us that we need to trust in God because He has told us He will take care of us.
When you let God have control of your life, you no longer have to worry because He wants what is best for you, and He has the power to make that happen. God promises to take care of use if we put our trust in Him. This is what Jesus said:
"I tell you not to worry about your life. Don't worry about having something to eat, drink or wear. Isn't life more than food or clothing? Look at the birds in the sky! They don't plant or harvest. They don't even store grain in barns. Yet your Father in Heaven takes care of them. Aren't you worth more than birds?
"Can worry make you live longer? Why worry about clothes? Look how the wild flowers grow. They don't work hard to make their clothes. But I tell you that Solomon, with all his wealth, wasn't as well-clothed as one of them. God gives such beauty to everything that grows in the fields, even though it is here today and thrown into a fire tomorrow. He will surely do even more for you! Why do you have such little faith?
"Don't worry and ask yourselves, 'Will we have anything to eat? Will we have anything to drink? Will we have any clothes to wear' Only people who don't know God are always worrying about such things. Your Father in Heaven knows you need all of these. But more than anything else, put God's work first and do what He wants. Then the other things will be yours as well.
"Don't worry about tomorrow. It will take care of itself. You have enough to worry about today."

PAIN #2 : GIVING UP
How many times have you thought, "Is this even worth it?"
Maybe you've tried really hard at something, but it's not working out and you want to quit. You just don't want to try anymore.
Sometimes, it's hard to know if you should keep trying what you're doing or if you should go for something else. But before you give up, make sure you are doing the right thing and that you are doing it in the right way.
The first place to start is with God's help. If you ask Him to be on your side, then He will help you to be successful if you are doing what He would want you to do. All you have to do is get connected with Him. If there are things you don't think you can get through, God can give you strength. Jesus said so:
"Stay joined to me, and I will stay joined to you. Just as a branch cannot produce fruit unless it stays joined to a vine, you cannot produce fruit unless you stay joined to me. I am the vine, and you are the branches. If you stay joined to me, then I will stay joined to you, then you will produce lots of fruit.
"But you cannot do anything without me. If you don't stay joined to me, you will be thrown away. You will be like dry branches that are gathered up and burned in a fire.
"Stay joined to me and let my teachings become party of you. Then you can pray for whatever you want, and your prayer will be answered."

God knows everything about you.
He genuinely cares about you, and he knows you truly matter.
He wants to have a relationship with you-growing
pains and all.

PAIN #3 : WORTHLESSNESS
Do you ever wonder if your life really even matters?
Well, It does!
God created the whole universe, and even though He is greater than we could even imagine, He knows everything about you. He genuinely cares about you, and He knows you truly matter!
He wants to have a relationship with you. Jesus used a story about a lost sheep to demonstrate how much you mean to God. Here is the story Jesus told:
"If any of you has 100 sheep, and one of them gets lost, what will you do? Won't you leave the 99 in the field and go look for the lost sheep until you find it? And when you find it, you will be so glad that you will put it on your shoulder and carry it home. Then you will call in your friends and neighbors and say, 'Let's celebrate! I've found my lost sheep.'
"In the same way, there is more happiness in Heaven because of one sinner who turns to God then more than 99 good people who don't need to."
No matter what kind of pain you are going through, remember that if you follow God, He will take control of your life. He will help you get through any though situations that come across your path.
With that kind of power, growing pains don't have a chance! So stretch your legs-and your mind-and make room for God in your life!
